Using Massage Therapy to Improve Sleep

An estimated 50 to 70 million Americans experience sleep issues that impact their health. This widely experienced issue can lead to slowed reaction times, obesity, lower work performance and higher risk of long-term diseases.

If you’re one of the many people who experience difficulty sleeping, a massage might be the answer to your problems.

Regular massages decrease depression and help with sleep because they trigger the release of serotonin, which is a neurotransmitter that can help people maintain their mood balance, essentially making them feel better.  Serotonin is also essential for the production of melatonin, which is a hormone that helps with sleep.

Anne Williams, author of Spa Bodywork and Teaching Massage, said, “Massage helps people spend more time in deep sleep, the restorative stage in which the body barely moves, which reduces the neurotransmitter associated with pain.”

If you’re struggling with lack of sleep, schedule a massage with me to start feeling better today!
