Using Massage Therapy to Improve Sleep

7/18/2017

Picture
An estimated 50 to 70 million Americans experience sleep issues that impact their health. This widely experienced issue can lead to slowed reaction times, obesity, lower work performance and higher risk of long-term diseases.

If you’re one of the many people who experience difficulty sleeping, a massage might be the answer to your problems.

Regular massages decrease depression and help with sleep because they trigger the release of serotonin, which is a neurotransmitter that can help people maintain their mood balance, essentially making them feel better.  Serotonin is also essential for the production of melatonin, which is a hormone that helps with sleep.

Anne Williams, author of Spa Bodywork and Teaching Massage, said, “Massage helps people spend more time in deep sleep, the restorative stage in which the body barely moves, which reduces the neurotransmitter associated with pain.”

If you’re struggling with lack of sleep, schedule a massage with me to start feeling better today!

Massage Helps People Go the Distance

Are you training for a race? Are you constantly training or logging a lot of miles? Massage therapy can help you succeed in your next race!

Regular massage sessions keep muscles moving freely, maintain good circulation and help deal with issues before they become injuries.

If you’re preparing for the big day, a Swedish massage will be right for you! Swedish massages decrease muscle tension and increase blood flow, which is best for the days leading up to the race or long run.

If you’re trying to get over an injury, a deep tissue massage can focus on problem areas by working the entire muscle during the massage.

Help yourself by calling today to prevent injuries, to increase blood flow and to eliminate pain that is related to racing.

Massage for cancer patients

6/7/2017

There are many different forms of cancer, but massage therapy has been proven to provide many benefits during the course of the treatments.

As a complementary therapy, used along with the specific cancer treatment, massage can treat the whole person, rather than focusing on the cancer symptoms. Several studies have shown that massage consistently reduced anxiety and depression in people with cancer. Massage also helped decrease nausea and pain.

Additionally, massage was found to reduce post-treatment fatigue and improve appetite for chemotherapy patients.

In a study specifically focusing on breast cancer patients, massage was proven to increase dopamine and serotonin levels, as well as reducing depressed mood, anxiety and anger.

So while dealing with the often-challenging and rigorous treatment for cancer, massage can help in a variety of ways, including relaxation and dealing with pain, fatigue and other cancer-treatment side effects.

You can help your loved ones undergoing cancer treatment by getting them a massage, so they can get the comfort, relaxation and increased feelings of well-being they need and deserve.

Playing any instrument for hours is bound to make people sore, especially for guitarists who spend a lot of time playing in the same positions.

Guitar shoulder is commonly known as a pain that radiates from the shoulder blade to the neck that often occurs from looking down while playing. Additionally, the arm position used to hold the neck of the guitar can create knots in the shoulder and forearm, causing pain and numbness.

Many people that play guitar regularly face this problem, but they don’t know what to do about it.

Don’t resort to pain killers for something that can be healed by a quality massage!

Please refer a guitar enthusiast who wants to prevent this issue and maintain their body so they can do what they love!

Being a mother is an extremely rewarding job, but it often takes a toll on the body.

Mothers put a lot of pressure on their bodies doing daily activities such as lifting a baby out of a crib or carrying their children during the day. These activities can be hard on the back, neck and other parts of the body.

Studies have shown that physical discomfort and exhaustion can harm the body in the long run, and minor aches can turn into injuries if left untreated.

If you are a mother with young children, consider making an appointment with me today. I guarantee that I can help your overworked muscles.

Is wearing high heel shoes wearing you down?

3/17/2017

Picture

Do you love wearing high heels but hate how they make you feel? What price is your body paying for the trendy shoes?

While comfortable shoes are making a comeback, high heel shoes are still extremely popular.

Seventy-two percent of women wear high heels at some point, and almost 50 percent of women between the ages of 18 and 25 wear high heels on a daily basis.

As the heels get higher, more pressure is put on the balls of your feet. As your body adjusts to this pressure, you change your posture. Changing posture can result in your calf, hip and back muscles tensing up.

Adam Kelonsky, a podiatrist at the NYU Langone Medical Center, said to think of your feet like the foundation of a house.

“As time goes by, the house on the uneven foundation will start to get some cracks and warping. Eventually, the doors may not close properly."

High heel shoes aren’t the enemy as long as you take care of your body after you wear them.

If you love being healthy as much as you love looking fashionable, let me rub some of your pain away today!

Many people start personal journeys for getting healthy when the new year begins. Whether you are going to the gym during the week, running, walking or doing other types of workouts, you don’t want bumps in the road to keep you from reaching your goals.

The problem is that people can start to get worn down from those exercises, and it hinders their ability to make progress.

Over working your body or straining muscles can result in long-term injury, which will make those fitness goals harder to keep up with.

Don’t delay your training or conditioning schedule because of an injury!

According to the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA), massage acts to improve performance, reduce pain, prevent injury, encourage focus and shorten recovery time.

It doesn’t matter what type of exercise you started at the beginning of the new year. A massage will allow you to enjoy less muscle stiffness and keep on track with the fitness goals you started, so stay motivated and give me a call to schedule your next massage!

Parenting Stress Relief

Picture

Need some stress relief from parenting teenagers?

Everyone knows parenting teenagers can be a difficult task – they’re learning to drive, they don’t want advice and they don’t always make life easy.

National Public Radio teamed up with the Harvard School of Public Health and the Robert Johnson Wood Foundation to study stress in the United States and they found that 34 percent of people raising one or more teenagers reported they had substantial stress in the last month.

In a time of your life when you have constant challenges and worries, it is important to put time aside time for yourself to relieve the stress you have.

Massage therapy has been known to lower heart rate and blood pressure, and it can increase the production of endorphins, which are natural feel good chemicals in your body.

Adding a massage to your routine can decrease the stress that comes from parenting, and it will lead you to have a happier, healthier life.
